The CIBC US Asset‑Based Lending is seeking a Business Development Manager (BDM) to identify, develop, and assist in closing high‑quality asset‑based lending transactions. In this role you will further develop CIBC’s presence across commercial banking, capital markets, wealth management, and commercial real estate. The ABL BDM will deliver new clients to CIBC through third‑party financial intermediaries, internal referrals, direct calling to middle‑market prospects, and financial sponsors.
Target clients include middle‑market, entrepreneur‑led or privately‑held companies, publicly‑traded customers and financially‑sponsored businesses with financing needs from $10MM to $75MM, with syndication capabilities beyond $75MM.
- Prospect new ABL clients.
- Accountable for new strategic relationship acquisition and achieving new business generation goals.
- Generate new business through quality leads from a broad network of referral sources and regular prospect visits.
- Identify cross‑sell opportunities for new clients.
- Maintain market understanding of bank and non‑bank competitors.
- Serve as the point person in assessing prospective relationships and delivering appropriate products or services.
- Active development and maintenance of CRM to ensure accurate pipeline forecasting.
- Bolster market presence within community and industry associations to promote CIBC and cultivate potential prospects and referral sources.
- Participate in initial fit‑assessment discussions for deals.
- Assist in structuring new deals to bridge client expectations and bank requirements.
- Act as strategic advisor to clients as needed.
- Develop and maintain profitable centers of influence within the targeted market to generate new business opportunities.
- Focus calling efforts on third‑party financial intermediaries, middle‑market direct calling, financial sponsors, and coverage of internal team members.
- Assist in client discussions while negotiating front‑end terms.
- Deep knowledge of all bank offerings with continual learning of new products.
- Collaborate with commercial bankers and portfolio managers to deliver ABL solutions.
- Maintain open communication with clients as deals progress through fulfillment.
- Provide guidance during credit events for new strategic relationships, including collaboration with portfolio managers during analysis and approval.
- Assist portfolio managers in deal negotiation as needed.
- Minimum 10years of asset‑based lending (ABL) experience.
- Minimum 5years of successful experience as a business development officer for a commercial or ABL lender focused on quality centers of influence.
- In‑depth understanding of the ABL industry, market structures, and competition (bank/non‑bank).
- Extensive referral source network with a track record of consistent calling efforts.
- Basic Microsoft Office skills with knowledge of online prospecting tools (e.g. Rel Pro, Salesforce, Pitchbook, Loan Connector).
- Self‑starter able to work from home and in office space, with excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Extensive travel required as part of territory coverage.
- Expected salary range of $ – $, based on experience, qualifications and location.
- Eligibility for the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may include a discretionary bonus component.
