What This Client Is Actually Looking For 1. A Mid‑Level to Upper Mid‑Level Full‑Stack Engineer (NOT junior, NOT senior, NOT a manager)
They repeatedly reject: “too junior”, “too senior”, “director level”, “management‑focused vs IC”.
Target level:
- 5–8 years of hands‑on IC engineering experience
- Not junior, not leadership, not executive
They reject candidates who are: too frontend, too backend, too cloud/SRE/Dev Ops‑focused only on APIs or infrastructure, not product/feature‑focused.
They want:
- Full‑stack engineers who build customer‑facing features
- Hands‑on experience with user‑facing products, experimentation, UI backend
They consistently reject: big company engineers, agency contractors, freelancers, consultants, people who work “for others” instead of inside a product org, people without startup experience.
They want:
- Engineers who have built software inside a high‑growth tech startup
- Preferably 2–5 years at a VC‑backed SaaS or product company
They reject: “only 1 year of USA experience”, “limited experience in USA”.
They prefer:
- 2 years of full‑time work experience at US tech companies
Rejected for: being from massive corporations, lacking product‑centric work, not having customer‑facing ownership.
They want:
- Engineers used to startup environments where you ship quickly, own features, and iterate
Rejected for: agency background, freelance for 16 years, consulting instead of building internal products.
They want:
- Full‑time ICs who shipped and owned a product roadmap
The Ideal Candidate Profile
- A 5–8 year full‑stack engineer who has:
- Experience at high‑growth startups (not big enterprise)
- Strong product sense, customer‑facing feature experience
- Solid backend frontend balance
- Full‑time IC roles (not agency, not freelance, not consulting)
- Built internal tools, platforms, and external user features
- 2 years working at US tech companies
- No over‑seniority or management‑heavy roles
They want a mid‑level full‑stack product engineer with real startup experience, US work history, and hands‑on feature‑building—no infra, no SRE, no enterprise, no freelancers, and no managers.
