Job SummaryPerforms manual work functions associated with the maintenance of landscaping, trails, buildings, public beaches, grounds, accesses, parking lots, right of way areas, parks, recreation facilities, and other areas of assignment. Assists with educational programs and City events. The position also supports other departmental divisions and programs as needed.
Essential Functions / Duties And Responsibilities- Monitors area of assignment for debris, safety concerns, and potential enforcement issues.
- Removes trash, marine debris, abandoned equipment, and other materials from the area of assignment.
- Collects, transports, sorts, shreds, and processes materials for recycling or disposal.
- Removes trash bags from public accesses and facilities as needed.
- Cleans loose trash and debris from areas of assignment.
- Maintains facilities and areas of assignment through basic custodial, maintenance, and light construction tasks.
- Clears brush, trims trees, trims fence rows, fills low spots, and maintains trail right of ways as needed.
- Interacts professionally with the public, vendors, and visitors regarding rules, safety, and environmental stewardship.
- Assists with wildlife-related incidents and document observations and actions taken.
- Operates and maintains City vehicles, including 4x4 vehicles, ATVs, and UTVs, in off-road and public environments. Operates mower, tractor, loader, skid steer, trimmer, chainsaw, auger, sprayer, and other similar equipment as necessary. Utilizes common hand and power tools as necessary.
- Performs preventive maintenance and repair activities as required on vehicles and equipment.
- Maintains inventories of equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Completes required reports and maintains records, including activity logs, debris reports, wildlife incidents, accident reports, and public interactions.
- Assists with City wide events and supports other departmental divisions and programs.
- May deliver educational presentations, assists with field trips, and attends public events as needed.
- May maintain, repair, and install structures.
- Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner.
- Maintains a highly professional attitude and demeanor at all times.
- Provides responsible, appropriate, and satisfactory leadership within the City.
- Communicates positively and professionally in all aspects of the position.
- Attends all department meetings, City meetings, and professional development activities.
- Becomes thoroughly familiar with all pertinent state and national policies and comply with said policies.
- Complies with City wide and departmental policies, as well as state and federal laws.
- Ensures the positive promotion of the City.
- Is prompt and punctual in reporting for work, meetings, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ability to read and understand laws, regulations, and departmental policies.
- Knowledge of local beaches, waterways, roadways, and public access areas.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, volunteers, and the general public.
- Strong verbal communication skills for public interaction and education.
- Basic math skills for maintaining records and reports.
- Basic computer skills for report preparation and documentation.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with established policies.
- Ability to safely operate 4x4 vehicles, ATVs, and UTVs in off-road environments near people and obstacles.
- Ability to safely operate common hand tools, power tools, and small equipment.

Required Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current and valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Red Cross First Aid/CPR and AED certification (training provided).
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and non-standard hours.
- Ability to perform physical responsibilities of the position under extreme outdoor conditions.
- Experience in grounds maintenance, environmental programs, beach operations, or public service.
- Experience operating off-road vehicles or small equipment.
