Position Summary
Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp is a nonprofit organization focused on empowering children and adults with disabilities through overnight, outdoor, recreational programming. At our 22-acre camp situated in the Mt. Hood National Forest, we eliminate barriers to participation and adapt traditional summer camp activities like swimming, canoeing, horseback riding, hiking, and adventure courses to meet the needs of individuals with a wide range of physical, intellectual, and developmental disabilities.
In addition to this programming, we rent our facilities to weddings, families, youth groups, and businesses for events and gatherings.
The Facilities Technician works with the Facilities Director to ensure the maintenance and security of all buildings, grounds and infrastructure, maintain all camp equipment and vehicles, carryout building projects and system improvements at Camp, assume responsibility for the safe operation of the campsite and buildings during all Mt Hood Kiwanis Camp programming in the absence of the Facilities Director, and assure a clean and welcoming property and facilities for all guests.
The person who accepts this position must be flexible, have great communication skills, work well with others, have a commitment to caring for the camp property, and live up to the standards of the Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp.
Essential Functions- Knowledge and proficiency in the following areas: basic electrical, basic plumbing, vehicle maintenance, painting, sheetrock repair, finish work, strong carpentry and general building maintenance.
- Ability to operate light and heavy equipment (e.g. backhoe, snowplow, snow blower, dump trailer, ATV, etc.).
- Ability to safely operate a chainsaw.
- Proficient in Microsoft Operations systems including Windows, Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Ability to communicate effectively over the telephone, by email, and in writing with campers, volunteers, rental groups, and other staff.
- Ability to present good customer service and demeanor to all staff members, campers, camp families, vendors, and rental groups.
- Ability to assist other departments include the rentals program in the kitchen during mealtimes and/or preparing lodges for the next group.
- Ability to walk distances, climb ladders, work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Willingness to be on-call and, on occasion, stay overnight to manage snow or rental groups.
- Familiarity with health, safety, and fire prevention procedures and codes.
- Ability to work outside in inclement weather conditions day and night.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Building maintenance and carpentry experience.
- Have, or be willing to obtain, current CPR, First-Aid, and AED certification and Oregon Food Handlers Card.
- Current driver’s license with valid auto insurance and be insurable by Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp’s auto policy carrier.
- Be able to pass a Department of Health and Human Services background check.
- Must live within 30 miles of Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp.
$55,000-$60,000, based on experience and qualifications. Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp offers a competitive and generous benefits package, including 401k, medical and dental insurance, and all banking holidays.
