responsibilitiesessential duties and responsibilities
- follows and maintains knowledge of all district policy(ies) and procedures.
- cleans areas as assigned (classrooms, halls, offices, rest rooms, cafeteria, etc.), vacuums, shampoos, sweeps, scrubs, waxes, polishes, mops, and buffs all types of floor surfaces.
- washes windows, white boards, chalk boards, walls, doors, and baseboards.
- cleans and polishes furniture, windows, metal work, and computer screens.
- maintains indoor and outdoor lighting and changes light bulbs as necessary.
- adjusts clocks as necessary.
- reacts to changes in schedule(s) productively.
- washes, scrubs, and disinfects equipment (sinks, fixtures, toilets, showers, panels, drinking fountains, etc.) daily.
- cleans and sanitizes bathrooms, checks and stocks supplies.
- cleans up spills (including bodily fluids) safely and responds to special requests for custodial services with supervisor approval.
- sets up, takes down, and moves tables, chairs, equipment, shelving, partitions for meetings, athletic events, assemblies, and other district needs.
- removes snow and ice from sidewalks, walkways, and steps as needed.
- unlocks doors and windows, turns on lights, raises flag, prepares buildings for start of day; locks doors, windows, gates, turns off lights, lowers flag, secures buildings at night.
- picks up paper and other debris, empties trash/recycling receptacles and cleans them as needed.
- waters plants, cleans planter boxes, performs minor trimming, weeding of grounds and entryways.
- rearranges and moves furnishings, transports and delivers educational supplies as requested.
- works cooperatively with other custodial personnel.
- reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards immediately to supervisor.
- interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, and parents and resolves conflict professionally.
- maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
- complies with applicable district, state, local, federal laws, rules, and regulations.
- attends work regularly and is punctual.
marginal duties and responsibilities
- attends in-service trainings.
- attends staff meetings.
- assists in maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment.
- assists maintenance and grounds keeping departments as necessary.
- completes appropriate log(s), forms, paperwork accurately.
- reports issues to authorities as necessary, animal control, suspicious activity, etc.
- high school diploma or ged or equivalent knowledge/one year experience or combination.
- works well with others from diverse backgrounds, interacts appropriately with students and staff.
- communicates fluently in english, both verbally and in writing; reads and interprets safety documents.
- can add, subtract, multiply, divide using whole numbers, fractions, volume.
- applies common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, scheduled, or diagram form.
- general knowledge of computer usage and ability to use e-mail, internet, word processing, etc.
- appropriately communicates with students and staff; safely operates custodial equipment; exercises good judgment.
- has certificates as required; ability to obtain valid cpr/first aid, blood borne pathogen training, blood spill training.
- citizenship, residency or work visa required.
employee must regularly talk or hear; frequently walk, stand, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms; occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; regularly climb stairs or ladders; must regularly lift/move up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds. Required vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus. Must demonstrate strength and dexterity to operate custodial/maintenance tools and machinery.
workenvironment
standard school/school grounds setting. Noise moderate to high depending on student population, activities, equipment. Exposed to wet or humid and outdoor weather conditions, cleaning agents, hazardous chemicals, electrical shock risk, vibration; exposure to bodily fluids and blood borne pathogens.
