Substitute Custodian
Jefferson County School District is seeking substitute custodians to substitute as needed during the 2026-27 school year. Closing date: until filled.
Location:
various schools within Jefferson County School District 509J. Salary: $21.41/hour.
Position summary:
under general supervision, performs routine cleaning of school facilities including floors, walls, doors, restrooms, walkways, entrances and furniture; monitors the building for damage, participates and/or recommends preventive maintenance measures to the supervisor. Employee should have knowledge of methods, materials, and practices used in building cleaning and sanitization work, and the proper use and care of mops, brooms, scrubbing brushes, waxing machines, and related equipment and a working knowledge of the safe efficient procedures for operating required tools of the job.
Job scope: this position functions under the direction of the head custodian/facilities supervisor and operates within established systems and rules. The work is somewhat recurring and routine although the position may encounter variations from the norm due to changing conditions. This position has little to no planning responsibility beyond the need to schedule own work and determine impediments to own work schedule.
Education, experience and certification/licensure (minimum qualifications): any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described within this job description. Be at least 18 years of age.
Preferred qualifications:
experience as a custodian in a K-12 school environment. Bilingual Spanish.
