Position: Technician, Field Service - Regional (Portland, OR)

Responsibilities

We have a great opportunity for a Field Service Technician (FST). The FST is a development role that prepares for a Service Engineer (SE) position, with extensive training, frequent travel across the U.S., and eventual assignment to a permanent U.S. service district. The position may include relocation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Successfully complete the FST training program.
  • During training, travel within service districts to work with a mentor or support service‑related tasks.
  • Upon completion, provide service support in assigned districts.
  • Travel during training may be up to 50% of the time within the United States.
  • Accept an SE or related position after training.
  • Install, maintain, and repair Sysmex instruments and systems, including identifying and analysing problems, performing repairs, and conducting pre‑installation site surveys, installations, scheduled maintenance, and approved modifications.
  • Follow Sysmex policies for scheduling modifications (TSB and ECR processes).
  • Monitor and respond to communication devices during scheduled times.
  • Document all service activities promptly and professionally, including inventory, service orders, expense reports, and other required records.
  • Perform duties within defined service standards, meeting on‑time and labor hour goals for scheduled maintenance, demand service events, installations, and first‑visit repair rates.
  • Provide ownership of technical issues at customer sites.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with other Sysmex associates to ensure customer resolution and satisfaction.
  • Maintain expenses within guidelines.
  • Maintain high level of customer account management and organization skills.
  • Maintain control of parts inventory and all company property.
  • Execute duties in a manner that demonstrates confidence, promotes goodwill, and maintains credibility.
  • Promote effective, positive, and productive communication and teamwork among Sysmex personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Travel

Up to 50% within the United States during training.

Physical Demands

Regular exposure to risk that may require alertness; moderate physical activity, routine handling of objects 21‑50 pounds; continuous walking, inspections, keyboard or CRT work. May require periods of moderate discomfort due to noise, dust, lighting, and/or other conditions.

Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or 0‑3 years relevant experience in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Electronics and/or laboratory science knowledge.
  • Completion of Sysmex‑certified instrument training.
  • Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days.
  • Willingness to relocate to any service district in the U.S.
  • General computer knowledge in a Windows environment; basic knowledge of LIS systems and interfacing principles desirable.
  • Ability to explain complex technical information in simple, understandable terms.
  • Outstanding listening skills, patience, and understanding.
  • Presentation and influence skills.
  • Team orientation and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to maintain stable performance under pressure or opposition and handle stress appropriately.
  • High energy level and positive attitude.
  • Excellent command of English, both verbal and written; second language desirable (Spanish, French, or Portuguese).
Certification Requirements

Proof of current vaccinations for measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chickenpox), and COVID‑19.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range for this role is $20.19 to $31.73, plus overtime pay. Compensation is determined by work location and individual factors. Benefits include a choice of health care plan (medical, vision, and dental insurance), an annual incentive bonus, paid time off, parental leave, bereavement leave, and a 401(k) for all eligible employees.
