This is an on‑site position based at the Provo campus. The role operates primarily during standard business hours, with flexibility required to support campus events, including occasional evenings or weekends. Work is performed indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions and physical labor such as lifting, moving equipment, and performing maintenance tasks.
ABOUTTHE ROLE
The Facilities Assistant plays a vital role in maintaining the functionality, safety, and appearance of campus buildings. This position supports daily facility operations through routine maintenance, minor repairs, and coordination with internal teams and external vendors. The role ensures that campus environments remain conducive to learning, teaching, and administrative functions.
WHY THIS ROLE MATTERSThis role directly impacts the daily experience of students, faculty, staff, and visitors by maintaining safe, functional, and visually appealing facilities. The Facilities Assistant contributes to institutional effectiveness by ensuring operational continuity, supporting campus events, and helping preserve university assets through proactive maintenance and timely response to repair needs.
WHAT YOU WILL DO- Conduct daily building walkthroughs to identify, prioritize, and address maintenance needs
- Perform routine light maintenance and minor repairs (e.g., patching walls, painting, fixture repairs)
- Inspect, repair, and maintain furniture and equipment to ensure safety and usability
- Install and adjust classroom and office furniture and equipment
- Coordinate maintenance and repair efforts with internal staff and external contractors
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory
- Respond to maintenance requests and service calls in a timely manner
- Monitor facility conditions and address visual or functional deficiencies
- Communicate issues and updates regularly to the Director of Facility Operations
- Assist with event setup, furniture rearrangement, and operational support as needed
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 6 months of related maintenance or facilities experience
- Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation and current insurance
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Ability to safely use hand tools, cleaning agents, and maintenance materials
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Physical ability to lift and move up to 100 pounds
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- One year of related facilities or maintenance experience
- Experience with drywall patching and painting
- Familiarity with basic building maintenance and repair techniques
