Lane 12 Contract And Benefits

Hours: 8 hours per day

250 Day Contract, Beginning July 1, 2026

Hourly rate: $23.19 - $26.05 (depending on qualifications and experience)

The job of Custodian Head – Special Schools/Elementary is performed to provide custodial services at the assigned elementary site, ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. The role includes performing a variety of special cleaning operations; overseeing the preparation of facilities for classroom activities and campus events; overseeing and supporting assigned custodians in the performance of their assignments;

maintaining grounds; and ensuring that assignments are completed in a safe, proper, and timely manner.

Sharon Elementary will be the site of a new special‑needs school. The building houses two special schools: one for students with significant disabilities ranging from Pre‑K to 12th grade, and another for students with disabilities aged 18‑22 in a post‑high transition setting. The head custodian will serve the entire building and work with both principals.

Essential Functions
  • Assists with site snow removal to ensure access and safety for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Cleans assigned facilities and/or grounds (classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, pools, grounds, walkways, fence lines, play yards, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
  • Conducts and/or participates in training and drills with students and staff (fire, intruder, earthquake, health and safety, etc.) to ensure emergency procedures are in order and alarm systems are operational.
  • Consults with administrative personnel (principal, assistant principal, etc.) to plan, prioritize, and schedule custodial activities and achieve site maintenance objectives.
  • Delivers a variety of items (supplies, mail, packages, furniture, etc.) to distribute materials to the appropriate parties within the site.
  • Distributes custodial supplies and equipment (cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuums, mops, buckets, brooms, etc.) to custodial staff and storage locations.
  • Informs appropriate site personnel (principals, teachers, secretaries, etc.) to provide information and direction regarding activities, safety issues, and proper maintenance of facilities.
  • Inspects facilities and components (fire suppression equipment, boilers, playground equipment, etc.) to ensure the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and to identify necessary repairs.
  • Lifts up to 80 pounds and may push/pull up to 150 pounds for site maintenance, material distribution, and safety.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment (cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuums, mops, etc.) to ensure the availability of custodial items needed for proper maintenance.
  • Manages budgets (cleaning supplies, maintenance, and repair expenses, etc.) to achieve objectives for site safety and upkeep.
  • Monitors activities in and around work areas (halls, multipurpose rooms, lunch rooms, restrooms, grounds, etc.) to identify and correct issues that could cause injuries and ensure site safety.
  • Oversees facility maintenance activities and assigned custodial personnel (sweepers, part‑time custodial employees, etc.) to ensure functions are performed efficiently and in compliance with site requirements and standards.
  • Oversees and schedules assigned personnel (custodian, lead custodian, sweepers, etc.) to ensure safe and efficient site maintenance.
  • Participates in personnel decision‑making (hiring, dismissal procedures, etc.) to assist the administrator with personnel actions.
  • Performs routine maintenance on the boiler, water heater, cooling tower, etc. (changing filters, cleaning, etc.) to keep equipment in proper working condition.
  • Performs minor job‑related maintenance on custodial equipment, classroom furniture, and fixtures (changing vacuum cleaner belts and bags; changing HVAC filters; greasing machinery; changing ballasts; hanging whiteboards; installing fixtures; performing equipment maintenance and minor repairs, etc.) to ensure proper functioning.
