PreschoolInstructor Position
The Preschool Instructor leads children in a well-balanced curriculum growing their mental, physical, social and emotional needs as well as developing their motor coordination and academics in preparation for kindergarten.
Preschool Juniors2‑hour class, Tuesday/Thursday. The first‑year curriculum introduces classroom routines, social skills and age‑appropriate lessons on letters, shapes and colors. Activities include art, music, movement games and motor skill development. Students also enjoy two field trips and a few local outings.
Preschool Seniors2.5‑hour class, Monday/Wednesday/Friday. Builds on the foundation from the previous year, further developing learning and social skills. The curriculum includes more writing, lowercase letters and numbers up to 20, with a strong focus on kindergarten readiness. Students enjoy two field trips, a few local outings and a graduation ceremony.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and execute lesson plans with defined objectives.
- Provide instruction in colors, numbers, letters, shapes, etc. in accordance with the Preschool Curriculum Guide.
- Provide a positive approach to learning in all areas with children, parents and co‑workers.
- Provide instruction in motor coordination (gym class) in accordance with Preschool curriculum guide.
- Daily Preschool set‑up and clean‑up including setting up tables, chairs, and any additional equipment needed for the day.
- Classroom preparation including retrieving and unloading boxes from storage, arranging shelves and cabinets, and cleaning of all equipment, tables, chairs, toys, etc.
- End of the year clean‑up and inventory including packing supplies and equipment and moving to storage.
- Planning, implementing and supervising holiday parties, programmes and end‑of‑year recitals and graduation ceremonies.
- General upkeep of classrooms and equipment, which includes light cleaning and identifying and reporting any repairs that need to be made.
- Provide continual input to increase the quality in all areas of the Preschool program.
- Supervise all field trips.
- Assist in completing other duties as assigned by the Preschool Coordinator.
High School diploma required; a bachelor's or associate degree in early childhood development preferred. Must have a minimum of one year of experience working with children 3‑5 years of age. Must have high standards of personal conduct, genuine liking for children and the ability to communicate on the pre‑school level. Must be at least 18 years of age with own transportation.
A high level of enthusiasm and creativity is also required.
CPR and First Aid Certified or the ability to be certified as the classes are made available.
Individuals in this position must be able to work with small children. The position requires bending, reaching, turning, and lifting children between 20‑50 lb. This position also requires sitting on the floor, kneeling, bending and stooping at tables that are 24 inches off the ground.
Work EnvironmentThis position is performed in a classroom, and/or gymnasium setting. Tuesday and Thursday classes have 16 students and 2 teachers. Monday, Wednesday and Friday classes have 20 students and 2 teachers. The pace and noise level of this position is moderate to high depending on the children. Some activities take place outside or at an off‑site location.
Compensation & BenefitsHourly rate of pay $18.42–$22.81, depending on experience and qualifications.
Anticipated starting salary is $18.50 per hour.
Approximately 20 hours per week, Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑12:00 pm, August‑May.
