The Village of Orland Park is strengthening its commitment to public safety and community preparedness, and you can play a vital role. As an EMA Technician with our newly established Emergency Management Agency (EMA), you will support emergency services personnel during incidents, disasters, and special events, helping to ensure the safety and resilience of the Orland Park community.
EMA Technicians are part of a dedicated team trained to assist in coordinating governmental and non‑governmental agencies during emergencies. The agency collaborates closely with the Cook County Department of Emergency Management and Regional Security and the Will County Emergency Management Agency, providing critical skills in disaster preparedness, special event staffing, and public safety initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Assist Police, Fire and Recreation Departments with traffic control during emergencies and/or special events.
- Support high power scene lighting and basic on‑site operations.
- Participate in storm monitoring and patrols.
- Assist with search and rescue efforts.
- Support disaster preparedness and response activities.
- Help manage emergency shelters when activated.
- Provide crowd control, basic security and event support at Village‑sponsored events including Memorial Day Parade & BBQ Fest, 4th of July, Taste of Orland Park, Centennial Park West Concerts and Thursday Night events, Holiday Parade, Tree Lighting & Fest.
EMA Technicians must be at least 18 years old and possess a High School Diploma or GED. While prior emergency management experience is preferred, candidates with a combination of relevant education, training, or experience will also be considered. A valid Illinois driver’s license with a good driving record is required. Technicians should have strong problem‑solving, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Knowledge of emergency management procedures, attention to detail, and readiness to respond promptly to emergencies or special events are essential.
- Duty Call Out for EMA assistance – three (3) hour monthly minimum required.
- Special Events – three (3) hour monthly minimum required.
- Training Drills and Maintenance Activities – two (2) hour monthly minimum.
- EMA Technicians agree to work a minimum of 120 hours per year (an average of 10 hours per month) and attend monthly meetings.
All EMA staff will undergo required background checks, mandatory training, and are subject to the Village’s policies and procedures.
This role includes comprehensive training in areas such as First Aid, CPR/AED, Bloodborne Pathogens and PPE, Incident Command, Emergency Vehicle Operations, Traffic and Crowd Management, Search and Rescue, SKYWARN Storm Spotting, Radio Communications, Hazardous Materials Awareness, and shelter operations.
Hourly pay rate is $21.00.
