Position Summary
The Interim Pastor shall be ordained and will minister and support the needs of our church family and friends. The Interim Pastor will provide pastoral care, conduct worship services, serve as head of staff, provide leadership training for Elders and Deacons.
Pastoral Responsibilities
Leadership – Enable the fulfillment of our church vision. Delegate, train, and move the church toward positive change.
- Report regularly to Session; moderate the church’s Session meetings
- Provide training for Elders and Deacons to improve their leadership skills and enable them to be effective leaders
- Participate in the Renewal program with an emphasis on listening and guidance.
- Be comfortable discussing financial and budgetary concerns.
- Assist Session in framing youth ministry and leadership programs, as desired by congregation.
- Work with PNC and Committee on Ministry to develop and finalize the MDP for a called pastor.
- Guide a congregational self‑study (which may reinforce work done in Renewal Program) to help build and refine requirements for our next pastor.
Pastoral Care – Engage people through collaboration. Build and maintain relationships with church members and friends of the church.
- Continue to welcome visitors, seekers and all newcomers.
- Support and assist the ministries that equip children and youth to study scripture, profess and share their faith in Jesus Christ.
- A desire to nurture and cultivate a culture that helps us conform to Christ as a body of believers through the power of the Holy Spirit.
- A desire to be authentic and transparent about their personal journey with God.
- Open to feedback and a good listener.
- A desire to shepherd the church community with compassion and affection in the ordinary messiness of life, having a vision for the life of God in every believer.
- Provide for visits to hospitals, the homebound, nursing homes, and home communion.
Worship – Preach, inspire, and connect people to God’s word.
- Coordinate and plan, with the worship committee, the weekly worship services.
- Lead Sunday morning worship and other services as necessary.
- Prepare and deliver sermons; preside at baptisms, weddings, funeral services.
- Encourage youth participation in worship.
- Encourage diversity in worship formats and experiences.
Administration – Demonstrate the capacity to manage a church staff.
- Lead and manage the staff.
- Manage performance evaluations, goal setting.
- Assist congregation in developing clear direction and vision.
- Communicate effectively.
- Comfortable with technology and social media.
- Consult with and provide direction as needed to ministries and committees of the church.
- Review church staffing for current needs.

- A leader willing to maintain the diversity of the congregation, challenge us to new ideas, and listen for the leading of the Holy Spirit.
- 5 years ordained experience; interim training and transition experience required.
