Business Development Manager – Commercial Construction Blackbird Construction Group – Orland Park, IL About Us

We partner with owners, developers, architects and facility managers to plan and deliver projects that are on time, on budget, and executed correctly.

The Opportunity

Blackbird Construction Group is seeking an experienced Business Development professional who knows the commercial construction space and can proactively open doors, build relationships, and bring in new opportunities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being in the market, talking with decision‑makers, and working closely with estimating and operations to help position and win work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, pursue, and secure new commercial construction opportunities with owners, developers and property managers in our target markets.
  • Build, grow, and manage a robust pipeline of prospects, including regular outreach, follow‑up, and tracking in a CRM or similar system.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, engineers, and other key influencers to generate repeat and referral business.
  • Conduct market and client research to stay ahead of upcoming projects, trends, and competitors in the region.
  • Collaborate with estimating and project teams to qualify leads, develop strategies, and support the preparation of proposals and presentations.
  • Represent Blackbird Construction Group at industry events, trade shows, networking functions, and association meetings to increase visibility and generate leads.
  • Help shape go‑to‑market strategies, sales targets, and business development plans that align with company goals.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of business development, sales, or client‑facing experience in commercial construction, specialty contracting, or closely related AEC industries.
  • Demonstrated track record of winning work and building long‑term relationships with owners, developers, and facility decision‑makers.
  • Strong understanding of the commercial construction sales cycle, from lead generation through proposal, negotiation, and handoff to operations.
  • Comfortable with prospecting activities (calls, emails, in‑person meetings, site visits, networking events) on a regular basis.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal teams (estimating, project management, leadership) and communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Self‑starter mindset, disciplined with time and pipeline management, and motivated by clear goals and results.
  • Local market knowledge in the Chicagoland / regional commercial construction market is strongly preferred.
