Position

Summary

Plans, performs, and delegates installation, testing, inspection, preventive maintenance, and repairs involving heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and refrigeration‑related control systems throughout the facility.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Receives and reviews work orders, and distributes assignments to HVAC Technicians.
  • Coordinates and schedules projects with the Engineering Supervisor. Estimates time and materials to perform required tasks.
  • Works with outside vendors and contractors as needed.
  • Responsible for daily heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration work performed within the department.
  • Calls additional support from outside contractors and vendors as needed to maintain the integrity of all related systems.
  • Orders necessary stock and makes emergency repairs without prior approval.
  • Monitors work orders and confirms their completion.
  • Actively participates with the implementation and ongoing evaluation of preventive maintenance systems.
  • Responds to emergency situations throughout the facility.
  • Works closely with the Engineering Director to provide a safe air quality environment throughout the facility.
  • Coordinates HVAC and refrigeration shutdowns in order to ensure that patient care areas are affected as little as possible, and keeps affected departments informed of these events.
  • Keeps work areas clean.
  • Maintains the facility HVAC control systems according to state and local facility regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions:

  • Maintains professional appearance at all times.
  • Participates in scheduled department meetings.
  • Maintains the confidentiality and security of all data and information relating to the facility, medical staff and patients.
  • Abides by all relevant facility policies and procedures.
  • This position requires training in the following areas: blood‑borne pathogens, fire safety, right‑to‑know, chemical hygiene, and infection control.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications

Education/Training:

High school graduate or equivalent.

Licensure/Certification:

  • HVAC technical diploma/certificate or Orange County HVAC Journeyman License.
  • Four (4) years of directly related work experience may substitute for the diploma/certificate or license (in addition to the requirements listed above).
  • EPA Type IV Universal Certification.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license with no more than six (6) points, at least 21 years of age, and must be insurable under the Orlando Health insurance carrier’s requirements and standards.

Experience:

Five (5) years of HVAC experience in commercial, industrial or health care organizations is required.
