The purpose of this class is to carry out custodial work in maintaining County buildings and facilities, as well as to care for assigned equipment and perform related tasks as needed. This role follows established procedures and operates under the close supervision of the assigned Crew Leader and Building Supervisor.
Responsibilities- Clean and sanitize restrooms
- Wash windows and other glass surfaces
- Dust and polish furniture
- Wipe down walls, clean window blinds, dust baseboards
- Remove trash and empty recycling containers
- Sweep, mop, scrub, polish, strip, and wax floors
- Vacuum, spot‑clean, or shampoo carpets
- Stock restrooms with necessary supplies
- Sweep porches, walkways, and breezeways
- Perform light building maintenance such as replacing light bulbs and arranging furniture
- Transport trash, supplies, or equipment between County buildings as needed
- Maintain assigned vehicles and equipment, and initiate repair requests
- Request necessary tools, materials, and supplies
- Respond to emergency calls for assistance
- Operate vehicles and equipment, including vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners, and buffers
- Keep accurate and up‑to‑date records of work performed
- Ensure all tasks are completed in accordance with County policies, procedures, and standards for cleanliness, quality, and safety
- Attend training, workshops, and meetings to enhance job knowledge and skills

Mathematical RequirementsUse basic addition and subtraction, such as making change or measuring.
Language RequirementsRead simple sentences, instructions or work orders; write simple sentences and complete simple job forms; speak simple sentences using basic grammar.
Mental RequirementsPerform simple, repetitive manual, clerical or operating tasks following a few definite procedures; complete minor short‑term planning; show little attention for accurate results.
Vocational/Educational and Experience Requirements- High school diploma or GED and instruction sufficient for satisfactory job performance
- Valid state driver’s license
- Over six months in a related field
Medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, reaching, stretching, pushing, pulling or lifting all of the time; exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis.
Environmental HazardsPossible exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat or cold, wet or humid conditions, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, toxic/caustic chemicals, disease/pathogens, etc.
