Job Duties

Cleans institutional facilities, removes waste and recycling, and monitors building security to ensure cleanliness, orderliness, and safety in assigned areas. Leads the custodial work of others and responds to custodial emergencies.

Sign‑on bonuses: $1,000 (or $500 for part‑time) after 180 days probation; $1,000 (or $500 for part‑time) after 1‑year anniversary.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed.
  • Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs.
  • Maintains clean and clear walkways free of debris, litter, snow, and ice.
  • Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables.
  • Schedules, monitors, and communicates with staff and assists with basic training.
  • Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities.
  • Responds to facility emergency and hazardous situations, and escalates incidents according to policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to assess workload, troubleshoot problems, and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to perform physical labor throughout work hours, including heavy lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, stooping, twisting, and other motions with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a custodial team.
  • Ability to understand and utilize safety regulations to work in a safe manner at all times, using personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to read/understand chemical labels/signs and/or pictures.
  • Must pass a pre‑work screen to ensure ability to perform essential physical functions.
  • Some assignments require obtaining a Wisconsin Driver’s License and authorization to drive a University vehicle upon hire.
  • Employees expected to be flexible in performance, and may work hours in excess of the normal shift, after‑hours call‑ins, including occasional weekend and holiday hours.
  • Ability to obtain a State of Wisconsin Driver’s License.

  • Prior custodial experience.

Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Compensation

$16.50 per hour.
