Job Duties

Custodians at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh perform individual and/or group custodial duties in academic and administrative buildings, residence halls, dining services, and operate and maintain power equipment including vacuums, shampooers, floor scrubbers, floor buffers, pressure washers, snow blowers and accessories. Duties include cleaning bathrooms, showers, lobbies, entrances, elevators, lodging rooms, classrooms, offices, hallways, stairwells, landings, pool area, gyms, handball courts, weight rooms, locker rooms, meeting rooms, pre‑function areas, etc.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues.
  • Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed.
  • Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs.
  • Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables.
  • Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice.
Benefits

Sign‑on bonus of $1,000 ($500 for part‑time) awarded after successful completion of a 180‑day probation period. Retention bonus of $1,000 ($500 for part‑time) awarded after successful completion of a 1‑year employment anniversary.

Compensation

$15.00 per hour

Required Qualifications
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to assess workload, troubleshoot problems, and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including heavy lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, stooping, twisting, and other motions with or without accommodations.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a custodial team.
  • Ability to understand and utilize safety regulations and personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand chemical labels and signs.
  • Must pass a pre‑work screen to ensure ability to perform essential physical functions.
  • Some assignments may require obtaining a WI driver's license and authorization to drive a university vehicle upon hire.
  • Employees must be flexible in performance of job functions and communicate respectfully with students, co‑workers, supervisors, and other staff; may be asked to work hours beyond the normal shift, including after‑hours call‑ins, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior custodial experience.
