Job Summary

Position is responsible for performing interior and exterior building cleaning maintenance in assigned areas. Responsibilities include building cleaning, collecting trash and debris, moving and arranging furniture, and helping to maintain the overall appearance and safety of University property and buildings. The role requires communication primarily with other custodial staff and secondarily with other University employees and students. The position works as a member of the Facility and Plant Operations Department.

Essential

Functions of the Job
  • Require cleaning of carpet, tile, walls, windows, doors, furniture, restrooms, offices, porches and sidewalks, including regular maintenance cleanings, spot or stain removal, and detail cleaning for special events.
  • Knowledge and experience of basic custodial tasks, tools, and techniques.
  • Work with supervisor and/or maintenance staff on specialized tasks such as inventory of equipment and maintenance of mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Perform work for University special events, including event “set ups” and “tear downs”.
  • Work cooperatively with others within and outside the department to provide a complete and efficient service.
  • Maintain positive work attendance, work in a variety of environments and climatic conditions, have flexibility to work evenings and weekend hours, and willingness to work overtime as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and required.
  • Represent the University in a positive, service‑oriented manner and handle access to University information confidentially and ethically, in alignment with the University’s Code of Conduct and Ethics.

Qualifications

Required

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Required Experience: Prior general related work experience.

The physical demands described here are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing duties, the employee must stand, walk, use hands to touch, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, go up and down stairs, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and exhibit agility and dexterity in small spaces.
