Mower Operators

The Seasonal Mower will be responsible for conducting roadside mowing across the County using a John Deere 6100 series tractor with a 15′ mower deck. This role also involves maintaining equipment and performing other related duties to ensure efficient operation throughout the mowing season. The position runs from approximately May to October 2026 (depending on seasonal conditions and workload).

• Valid Alberta Class 5 Operator’s License.
• Provide current driver’s abstract.
• Minimum grade 12 diploma.
• Experience operating and maintaining equipment.

• Mechanically inclined, able to troubleshoot.
• Maintain and service equipment.
• Map reading skills and working knowledge of Geographical Positioning System (GPS) & Geographic Information System (GIS) – Asset.
• Must be self‑motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Good physical condition.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• The ability to deal with the public effectively and courteously is required.

• Use and operation of heavy equipment and attachments throughout the County.
• Physical requirements:
  
  may require lifting and carrying up to 23 kg, bending, twisting, kneeling, squatting, crawling.
• Dust and fumes.
• Exposure to outdoor conditions.
• Normal work week is 40 hours, but occasional overtime may be required. A full work week is not always guaranteed if weather conditions make it difficult or unsafe to work. On such days, other duties may be available, but they are not guaranteed.

• All personnel working at Big Lakes County are governed by the County’s Health & Safety Policy.
• Ensures all operations are conducted in a safe manner and in accordance with County Policies and Occupational Health & Safety Regulations.
• Required to wear correct PPE as per safe job procedures.
• Must check‑in as per Working Alone legislation.
• Must follow all safe job procedures.
