Qualifications
Education Requirements:
To apply for this position, you must be a current Harper College student, enrolled in at least six credits per semester (three for summer).
Experience Requirements:
Previous experience with sewing machines, 3D printers, and graphic design software is a plus! Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure. Familiarity with graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, GIMP, and Inkscape a plus. The Make Shop student aides will be trained on how to assist Make Shop users in using the following machines: 3D printer, button makers, Apache laminator, sewing machines, among others.

The Harper College Library provides access to print and digital materials, study rooms, technology loans, assistance with citations and wireless printing for the students, employees and surrounding community.
ResponsibilitiesWhat is the Make Shop?
The Make Shop supports and promotes wellness by providing access to artistic tools. We provide a space to explore different artistic mediums and new or unique art forms. The Make Shop is intended for collaboration and engagement between Harper students, employees, and community members. It allows makers and inventors to take part in the entire creative process of imagining, building, and utilizing an object and learning a new skill.
In the Make Shop, individuals have the freedom to experiment with project-based learning and to learn by thinking critically, creatively, and to practice mindfulness by participating in a variety of programs.
Schedule Information:
Will determine schedule based on student’s availability but must have availability to work during the Make Shop’s open hours, (Mondays-Thursdays, 10am-3pm). Additional work hours may be available at other times to assist with marketing, programming, outreach and/or event preparation.
Responsibilities:
Assists with preparing for the Make Shop events and programs, such as the weekly Cr afternoon program.
Interest in creating art, crafts, and other projects using Make Shop creative technology and tools.
Provides basic troubleshooting for the Make Shop machines and devices.
Checks Make Shop materials in and out as needed.
Provides information to patrons who use the Make Shop and makes necessary referrals as needed.
Assists with promoting the Make Shop and general Library services via the library’s social media platforms and outreach events.
Assists in communicating Make Shop policies to help to preserve Make Shop resources and promote a comfortable, safe environment.
Assists in maintaining the Make Shop with light sweeping, dusting, and straightening up the space.
Assists with marketing and program outreach table events.
Provides basic customer service.
Performs related duties as assigned.
