Education:

Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work, or a related field required. Fluency in another language preferred. (Spanish preferred)

Experience:

Minimum two years of experience in adult education, student services, advising, counseling, or a related field.

Job Description

Provides continuity of services to the diverse AED student community during evening hours. Provides academic guidance to AED students through recruitment, orientation, enrollment, registration, assessment and technology support. Provides program information and referrals to Harper College departments and community agencies to help students address barriers to learning. Supports student data collection, class logistics and communication with students and instructors.

Responsibilities

Characteristic Duties:

Assists in the recruitment and retention of AED students.

Attends outreach and recruitment events at Harper and in the community as needed. Represents the department and provides program information to prospective students.

Assists with the development of recruitment strategies and prepares/distributes flyers, brochures, and communications as necessary.

Assists with beginning-of-semester preparation and welcomes instructors and students at all instructional sites. Provides evening coverage and support at off-site locations.

Supports departmental initiatives, including College Experience Day, that promote student persistence, engagement, and successful program completion. Participates in the AED general and on-going student registration/intake, assessment and placement processes.

Maintains accurate student records and documentation in accordance with departmental and state reporting requirements

Administers standardized Adult Education assessments, including pre- and post-tests, during evening sessions.

Collaborates with Assessment and Placement Specialist to monitor student assessment (pre-and post-tests) on an ongoing basis.

Collaborates with AED team for continuity of services across hours and sites. Communicates with inquiries received in evening hours through email and telephone.

Provides evening students with technology support and assists instructors and students in accessing digital instructional materials. Coordinates with the Technical Support Assistant to ensure technology support is available across instructional sites.

Collaborates with the Instruction and Learning Specialist to maintain files of community agencies and serve as a resource for student referrals.

Provides holistic student support by addressing academic and non-academic needs and referring students to appropriate Harper College departments, advisors, counselors, the Adult Career Transitions Navigator, or community resources.

Assists students in locating and using educational, career, and vocational information.

Refers special needs students to the Instruction and Learning Specialist for assistance. Meets with students who need to be transitioned to other learning options.

Serves as a liaison between the AED Department, other Harper Departments, and community agencies to coordinate student support services.

Serves on committees and task forces in the college and community to provide improved student services and increased networking as needed.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions/

Physical Requirements:

Work is primarily indoors and sedentary in nature. The regular work schedule includes afternoon and evening hours, with travel to instructional sites as needed. Equipment/Tools Used:
Utilized standard office equipment, including computers, to perform the duties of the job.

Supervision:

Under general supervision of the AED Director. Receives instructions as needed for specific assignments. Collaborates with AED staff and faculty, and College community.
