JOURNEYS | The Road Home in Palatine, IL is hiring part‑time Overnight Shelter Monitors who are ready to jump in, make a real difference, and have a little fun along the way! We are a non‑profit agency serving individuals experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity, and we are looking for two caring and attentive people to oversee the nightly activities at the shelter.
Here’s what we’re offering this entry‑level position:
Pay: $17.50/hour
Part‑time perks: 401(k) plan and paid time off (PTO)
Nightly schedule: 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., generally working 24–32 hours per week, including at least one weekend day. Schedules can vary depending on agency needs, and occasional evening/weekend hours may be required for attending meetings and events.
YOUR ROLE AS OUR OVERNIGHT SHELTER MONITORYou will be responsible for accurately documenting the night's activities, recording all incidents, and noting general observations. This position keeps the shelter running smoothly overnight by promptly responding to emergencies and professionally assisting any clients, visitors, or volunteers who contact us with questions or concerns. We will train you on our company policies and emergency protocols, and you will ensure you follow all regulations.
As needed, you might help out with additional tasks such as laundry duties.

No experience is required for this entry‑level role! What matters most is that you are compassionate, focused, and ready to act when needed. It would be great if you could bring your own computer. Experience using Microsoft products and an online database (or a willingness to be trained) would also be a plus.
