Heavy Equipment Mechanic
State Equipment Fleet is looking for a Heavy Duty Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

What you will be doing- Professionally maintain all heavy‑duty and light‑duty equipment and vehicles associated with the construction and maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports and other user agency vehicles operating in the area.
- Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems through a variety of techniques and methods; perform routine and specialized repair and maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment.
- Diagnose, maintain, repair and modify transmissions, drive trains, suspension, engine and emission, fuel injection, hydraulic systems and brake systems—including air and electrical—for light and heavy‑duty equipment.
This position is located at MP 306 Dalton Highway, Sag River, AK. Traveling in small planes to maintain equipment in remote locations is possible; travel may include day trips and overnight stays.
Qualifications- Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair and maintenance.
- Flexibility and adaptability to change and new information, and ability to rapidly adjust to changing conditions.
- Vehicle maintenance knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts and systems, including design, use, repair and maintenance.
- Strong self‑management: sets well‑defined personal goals, demonstrates initiative and commitment, works with minimal supervision, and shows responsible behavior.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required. Candidates must obtain a Class A Alaska CDL within 120 days of hire and must sign an agreement to this effect. CDL holders must also register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse and comply with DOT PF Drug and Alcohol Policy.

- Tool allowance: employees in this position are required to provide their own hand tools and will receive a bi‑weekly tool allowance as determined by the LTC contract.
