3. Starting Wage: $17.83. Days per Year: 222. Shift hours: 10:00 pm to 6:30 am.

Position/PCN:
Custodian at Colony High School overnight. Qualifications include a High School Diploma and a valid Alaska Driver’s License. This position involves cleaning, basic maintenance, and site security to maintain a safe and orderly school facility.

Responsibilities

Cleans buildings and equipment according to established schedules to maintain a safe and clean environment. Performs cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, trash removal, polishing, washing, waxing, stripping, and shampooing floors; participates in scheduled summer cleanup.

Performs minor maintenance on district buildings and equipment; replaces light bulbs, repairs lockers, desks, chairs, and bathroom fixtures; replaces ceiling tiles and baseboards; replaces broken electric sockets and switches as needed.

Inspects buildings, grounds, and equipment to ensure operations are safe and functional; identifies issues and determines appropriate action to prevent damage.

Secures the building by locking/unlocking doors and gates, turning lights on/off, and maintaining exterior areas (e.g., sidewalks) free of snow and debris.

Sets up and takes down equipment for lunchroom needs, events, and other building usage; monitors student behavior during school activities.

Notifies supervisors of supplies and replacement parts needed; assists with stocking the building with necessary materials.

Interacts with teachers, students, or the public as needed; may perform evening and weekend security checks and assist or train custodial substitutes.

Delivers mail and supplies, checks incoming mail and freight during summer, inventories custodial equipment, and assists with repairs (doors, carpets, sinks, bathroom fixtures) and machine jams.

Schedules bell changes and clock accuracy; assists with fire alarm source identification and reset; checks boilers and computer alarms; operates fans and addresses minor related issues.

Performs other related custodial functions as directed.

Knowledge: Knowledge of cleaning compounds/chemicals and basic education/work/life experience demonstrating ability to perform custodial tasks.

Training and Experience:
High School Diploma.

Licensing Requirements:
Valid Alaska Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements: The physical requirements described are representative of those necessary to perform essential functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made. Duties require standing, walking, using hands to handle objects, reaching, bending, lifting, and climbing; ability to lift up to 53 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds repeatedly as part of daily tasks; vision requirements include close, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Heavy Work:
Lifting/carrying up to 53 pounds occasionally; pushing up to 50 ft/lbs; pulling up to 50 ft/lbs; dynamic lifting criteria as specified.
