Position: 1.0 FTE Custodian-260 days/year

Position Overview

Custodian at Meadow Lakes Elementary (FTE 1.0, Pay Grade 3, Wage $17.83, Shift 7am–3:30pm, 260 days per year).

Responsibilities
  • Maintain school facilities, including buildings, grounds, equipment, and perform minor maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs and repairing lockers as needed.
  • Clean buildings and equipment according to established schedules: sweep, mop, dust, vacuum, remove trash, polish, wash, wax, strip, and shampoo floors.
  • Inspect areas daily for cleanliness and safety, report problems requiring repair, and deter vandalism.
  • Secure the building by unlocking/locking doors and gates, turning lights on/off, and keeping sidewalks and entryways free of snow and debris.
  • Set up and take down equipment (tables, chairs, etc.) for lunchroom preparations, events, and meetings; monitor student behavior during recess and lunch.
  • Manage cleaning supplies and replacement parts, assist in stocking supplies.
  • Interact with teachers, students, or the public; perform evening and weekend security checks; assist and/or train custodial substitutes as needed.
  • Deliver mail and supplies to teachers/classrooms; manage incoming mail and freight, inventory custodial machines, and repair minor equipment.
  • Schedule bell changes and clocks; assist in locating and resetting alarm systems; change filters, check boiler, and operate fan units as needed.
  • Perform other related custodial functions as directed.
Qualifications

Knowledge: Basic knowledge of cleaning compounds and chemicals; reasonable evidence of successful performance of listed tasks.

Skills & Training: High School Diploma.

Licensing Requirements: Valid Alaskan Driver's License.

Physical Requirements

Stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle objects, talk, hear; reach with hands and arms; occasionally sit; frequently squat, stoop, kneel, reach above head; continuously use hand‑strength to grasp tools; climb ladders; bend or twist at neck and trunk; lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly, up to 53 pounds occasionally; push/pull heavy items.

Visual abilities: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.

Heavy Work:
Lifting/carrying maximum 53 lb occasionally; pushing/pulling 50 ft./lb.
