The Staff Nurse position is a part‑time, 24‑hour per week role (11:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.), with rotating on‑call requirements during weekdays and weekends. The role reflects NM’s mission, adheres to the Code of Ethics, and complies with all relevant policies and regulations.
Responsibilities- Assess and record patient status, identify care needs upon admission/point of care entry.
- Organize assessment health data so that it is accurate, complete and accessible.
- Identify problems that need immediate attention.
- Validate diagnoses with patient/family and other health care team members.
- Document diagnoses to facilitate determination of expected outcomes and plan of care.
- Initiate problem list at admission and update as needed; incorporate principles of age‑specific care.
- Document that the patient’s individualized plan of care has been discussed with and agreed upon by the patient/family.
- Begin discharge plans at admission; consult with patient/family and health care team regarding discharge plan.
- Identify patient teaching needs on admission and throughout hospital stay.
- Arrange conferences with patient/family and other members of the health team when indicated.
- Prioritize and organize nursing interventions that are evidence‑based and reflective of established standards of care.
- Provide individualized, mutually agreeable patient and family education founded on evidence‑based practice and research guidelines.
- Document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses.
- Review consistently the patient’s health data to keep the Plan of Care updated.
- Ensure that revisions to the plan of care are systematic, ongoing, and driven by measurable realistic goals.
- Document the patient’s progression toward identified outcomes.
- Identify unmet outcomes and provide direction for continuity of care.
- Reassess nursing actions for effectiveness in achieving desired outcomes.
- Communicate with patient/family and health care team members regarding patient care and nursing’s role.
- Collaborate with patient/family and health care team members regarding progress/plan of care.
- Present relevant patient information at multidisciplinary meetings for feedback from peers.
- Make appropriate referrals as needed for continuity of care.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and analytic skills.
- Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) acceptable with commitment to obtain a BSN within three years of first day of employment in a clinical nurse role.
- Additional requirements depending on department: ACLS, PALS/ENPC & TNCC within one year for Emergency Room;
Pediatric Advanced Life Support and TNCC within one year for Pediatric Emergency Room; ACLS (preferred) for Non‑Invasive Cardiology. Preferred:
Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS);
Emergency Communications;
Registered Nurse Certified;
Pediatric Nurse Certified;
Emergency Nurse Certified.
- Experience in specific clinical area.
