Description

The Lactation Consultant RN is a registered professional nurse who supports breastfeeding patients, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, teaches nursing techniques, develops nursing care procedures, and maintains ANA standards of practice. The position applies evidence-based practice, integrates research, and focuses on patient-centered outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • A clinically competent registered nurse who evaluates and improves nursing care for breastfeeding patients.
  • Consults with nursing, medical staff, and other disciplines to achieve this goal.
  • Teaches and demonstrates specific nursing care techniques related to breastfeeding patients.
  • Assists in the development of nursing care procedures for breastfeeding patients.
  • Effectively interacts with patients, significant others, and health team members while maintaining ANA standards of professional nursing practice.
  • Collects comprehensive assessment data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
  • Analyzes assessment data to determine diagnosis or issues.
  • Identifies expected outcomes for individualized plans.
  • Develops a plan prescribing strategies or alternatives to attain expected outcomes.
  • Implements the identified plan, coordinates care delivery, and employs education strategies to promote health and safe environment.
  • Evaluates progress toward outcomes.
  • Collaborates with patients, family, and others in nursing practice.
  • Creates a documented plan focused on outcomes and decisions related to care delivery.
  • Considers safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice when choosing options for expected outcome.
  • Integrates research findings into practice and utilizes best available evidence to guide practice decisions.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Nursing.
  • Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
  • CPR—Basic Life Support certification.
  • Certification by the International Board of Lactation Consultants (IBCLC).
  • Current experience within the past five years or new nursing graduate within the past two years.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year experience in a pertinent clinical specialty.
