Job Title
Maintenance Mechanic IV (First Shift)
Work LocationMain Campus
Responsibilities- Receives work assignments, work orders, and instructions from the Maintenance Supervisor or the Lead Maintenance Mechanic.
- Studies and interprets mechanical or electrical blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, drawings or sketches to install new equipment or troubleshoot mechanical or electrical problems; plans and determines working procedures and tool and materials requirements.
- Corrects defective mechanical devices and other equipment by disassembling, installing new parts, refitting; adjusts and maintains mechanical equipment.
- Installs air, water, gas and refrigerant lines; repairs and maintains plumbing.
- Repairs and maintains temperature control systems.
- Repairs and maintains all college HVAC systems.
- Repairs and maintains AC & DC electrical systems.
- Repairs and maintains electronic equipment and systems.
- Operates and programs the building automation system.
- Responsible for the maintenance of the college’s swimming pool.
- Cleans boilers, adds chemicals to boiler water, cooling towers and closed water systems; makes chemical tests as required and keeps boiler house log.
- May act as lead worker in the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Lead Maintenance Mechanic or Senior Mechanic.
- High school or general education degree (GED) with a minimum of eight (8) years of work experience as a skilled maintenance mechanic.
- Moraine Valley Community College approved Heating and Air Conditioning Certificate or equivalent.
- City of Chicago Stationary Engineer’s License, or a related approved apprenticeship and training program.
- Valid driver’s license and insurability by college liability insurance carrier.
- Illinois Swimming Pool Operators certificate issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health and EPA approved Universal or Type III Technician Certification within twelve months of employment.
- Certificate of Completion of Johnson Controls Metasys EMS System and EPA approved Universal or Type III Technician Certification is preferred.
- Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively and respond to college personnel.
- Basic computational skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.
- Demonstrates required knowledge of test equipment, shop machinery and hand tools to perform diverse repair operations.
- Demonstrates knowledge of heating and cooling systems in order to troubleshoot and make extensive repairs.
- Demonstrates knowledge of building automation systems including basic programming and ability to make modifications of the systems.
- Possesses a positive and service oriented attitude.
Full Time
HoursMonday-Friday, First Shift (7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.). Requires on-call for weekend work. Training days/hours may differ initially.
