Responsibilities
- Perform general custodial duties: sweep, mop, vacuum, wax and polish VCT floors, dust and clean furniture, walls, rails, windows, sills, and blinds, empty waste baskets, remove refuse and trash up to 25 pounds, clean and restock restrooms, move furniture as needed, general cleaning and ground maintenance around buildings, parking areas, drives, and other campus areas; operate mowers, edgers, fertilizer spreaders, spray rig, tractor, and weed trimmer to maintain lawns;
plant trees, maintain roadways, parking areas, and fencing. - Provide event set‑up and tear‑down support for students, staff, faculty, and campus events inside and outside buildings; work closely with facility use coordinator; assist with cleaning and regular maintenance of sinks, counters and appliances in the prep kitchen; perform routine maintenance of all groundskeeping equipment.
- Respond to emergency clean‑ups; assist with Facilities, Operations, and Maintenance Department functions; perform general exterior maintenance and cleaning of buildings and grounds including doorways, entrances, sidewalks, pressure washing; other duties as required by supervisor.
- Completion of ninth grade.
- A valid State of Florida or Georgia driver’s license or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
- Experience performing event setup and breakdown, including arranging tables, chairs, staging, and equipment according to layouts or diagrams.
- Ability to operate floor care equipment, including high‑speed buffers, and knowledge of proper floor care techniques.
- Familiarity with custodial practices and cleaning standards for classrooms, offices, restrooms, and event spaces.
- Ability to interpret room setup diagrams, work orders, or verbal instructions accurately.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to safely lift and move furniture and equipment, and to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines under time‑sensitive event schedules.
- Participate in guided training sessions on university equipment, facilities, and standard operating procedures.
- Shadow experienced staff to learn daily workflows and preventative maintenance practices.
- Gain understanding of department safety protocols and compliance requirements.
- Take on progressively independent assignments with ongoing support and feedback.
- Establish strong working relationships with team members and campus partners.
- Position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check.
- Position will begin Summer 2026.
