Chief Building Engineer

Support the operations, maintenance, and repair of building systems. This role oversees the engineering team and ensures the optimal performance of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and HVAC systems within a commercial mall facility.

Pay: 61.18 per hour

Key Responsibilities:

• Manages the day-to-day operations and maintenance of building systems.
• Supervises and mentors building engineering staff, ensuring high standards of work quality and efficiency.
• Conducts routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and necessary repairs on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
• Troubleshoots and diagnoses system malfunctions, coordinating repairs with vendors and contractors as needed.
• Monitors and adjusts building automation systems (BAS) for optimal performance and energy efficiency.
• Maintains compliance with local, state, and federal safety and building codes.
• Manages inventory and procurement of maintenance supplies and spare parts.
• Ensures timely completion of work orders and documentation of maintenance activities.
• Collaborates with property management and tenants to address maintenance needs and service requests.
• Responds to emergency maintenance situations, including after-hours calls as required.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in building maintenance, facility management, and Engineering.
• 2 plus years of experience supervising maintenance teams and coordinating building operations.
• Active Black Seal and Blue Seal Licenses for the state of NJ
• Strong knowledge of MEP, HVAC, and building automation systems.
• Familiarity with OSHA regulations, NFPA codes, and other safety standards.
• Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Certifications such as HVAC, Universal CFC, or Building Operator Certification (BOC) preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing ladders.
