Position: English Lead Teacher - Long Term Substitute (ASAP - end of 2025-26 school year)

Overview

Maine Township High School District 207 announces a long-term substitute certified staff vacancy for the English lead teacher position at Maine South.

The English Lead Teacher provides instructional leadership and operational support within the English program department by assisting with instructional implementation, professional collaboration, and organizational management. This position bridges classroom teaching and departmental coordination, ensuring alignment of curriculum, instruction, and systems to promote student success in English. The English Lead Teacher is a certified educator who maintains a partial teaching load and fulfills key managerial and operational responsibilities under the direction of the Principal and/or designee.

Performance Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated annually by the Principal and/or designee in accordance with District 207's certified staff evaluation procedures.

Qualifications
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate content-area endorsement(s) in English.
  • Demonstrated expertise in inquiry-based, discussion-centered, and literacy-rich instructional practices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology systems such as the Student Information System (SIS), Google Workspace, and discipline-specific instructional tools.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

It is expected that the candidate will present a record of successful experiences that indicate outstanding instructional leadership, collaboration, and performance in the following areas:

  • Professional Learning Communities (PLCs): Supports and facilitates the PLC process within the English department to promote collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and the implementation of best instructional practices in English.
  • High-Impact Instruction: Supports the implementation of high-impact instructional strategies in English, including inquiry-based learning, analysis of primary and secondary sources, and discussion.
  • Meetings And

    Collaboration:

    Assists in organizing and facilitating department meetings to ensure effective communication, curricular alignment, and follow-through on English initiatives.
  • Master Scheduling: Collaborates with the Principal and/or designee in developing the master schedule, ensuring equitable and efficient allocation of staff, resources, and course offerings.
  • Articulation With Partner Districts: Works with the Principal and/or designee to support articulation with feeder districts on English curriculum, skills, and assessments.
  • Teaching And Supervision: Teaches a minimum of one (1) class and a maximum of four (4) English, or their equivalent, along with one supervisory assignment, as determined by the needs of the department.
  • Budget And Resource Management: Assists in developing and managing the English department budget; supports acquisition, maintenance, and inventory of instructional materials, resources, and supplies.
  • Student Information System (SIS): Provides support for data management and reporting functions related to the Student Information System within the English department.
  • Substitute Teacher Support: Coordinates with substitute teachers within the department to ensure continuity of instruction and access to English materials.
  • Managerial Support: Assists the Principal and/or designee with other operational and managerial tasks necessary for the effective functioning of the department.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined by the Administration and/or Board of Education.
