District 207 is seeking applicants for a Special Education Teacher for the school year at Maine South to provide services as an inclusion facilitator to students eligible under IDEA.
REPORTS TO and EVALUATED BY- Department Chair for Special Education
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Associate Principal for Students and Family Services in accordance with District 207's evaluation procedures and aligned to district priorities for teaching and learning.
QUALIFICATIONS:KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES
The successful candidate will be an experienced individual who possesses a combination of the following:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or related field
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with LBS I endorsement
- Proven experience in special education or a related field
- Comprehensive understanding of inclusive educational practices and strategies for students with diverse learning needs.
- Skilled in designing and implementing differentiated instruction to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Proficiency in assessing students' abilities and progress using both formal and informal assessment tools.
- Familiarity with assistive technologies and educational software that support learning for students with special needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, parents, general education teachers, and other professionals.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
- General knowledge of special education regulations, policies, and procedures
The successful candidate will be an experienced individual who can perform a combination of the following:
- Create, implement, and regularly update Individualized Education Programs (IEP) for students with identified needs, ensuring access to the general education curriculum.
- Provide coaching and support to general education teachers on lesson and curricular modifications, along with implementing accommodations to provide greater access and support within the general education classroom.
- Employ a variety of instructional strategies and materials to provide equitable access to education for students with disabilities.
- Develop and implement behavioral intervention plans to support positive behaviors within the learning environment.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay informed of best practices in special education and inclusion.
- Conduct assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction as necessary.
- Communicate effectively with families about student progress and involve them in the educational process.
- Establish links with community resources to support students' learning and well-being.
- Advocate for the rights and needs of students with disabilities within the school and the broader community.
- Must be able to work in a dynamic, active, and at times noisy educational environment.
- Must be able to stand, sit, walk, and interact with students for extended periods of time throughout the school day.
- Must be able to plan and deliver multiple lessons per day, accommodating a range of learning styles and student needs.
- Must possess visual and auditory acuity sufficient to monitor student activity, read instructional materials, operate technology, and participate in meetings.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move instructional materials or classroom equipment up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to use district technology systems for grading, communication, instructional design, and data analysis.
- Must be able to adapt to schedule changes, classroom relocations, and varying instructional environments (e.g., labs, resource rooms, collaborative spaces).
