We are partnering with a large privately held industrial holding company with a diversified portfolio of operating businesses across manufacturing, distribution, processing, and industrial services sectors. TheOpportunity
Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, the Controller will oversee corporate accounting, financial reporting, consolidations, internal controls, and shared services activities across a multi-entity organization. This role offers significantly broader exposure than a traditional Controller position, combining technical accounting leadership, business partnership, process improvement, operational finance, and executive-level visibility.
The Controller will work closely with finance leaders supporting multiple operating businesses while managing a small corporate accounting team and helping drive standardization and best practices across the broader organization.
Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Consolidations- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple entities
- Oversee consolidated financial reporting and elimination processes
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules
- Maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP and corporate accounting policies
- Support internal and external reporting requirements
- Supervise and develop accounting team members while fostering accountability and continuous improvement
- Partner with finance leaders across operating companies to improve reporting consistency and accuracy
- Assess organizational structure, talent needs, and process effectiveness within the accounting function
- Establish and maintain strong financial governance and control frameworks
- Evaluate and strengthen internal controls across key accounting and financial reporting processes
- Improve efficiency and standardization across accounting policies and procedures
- Leverage technology and automation to streamline workflows and reporting activities
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across finance and accounting operations
- Collaborate with FP&A and operational leadership to develop meaningful management reporting and analytics
- Support executive leadership with financial insights and decision-support analysis
- Participate in strategic projects, business initiatives, and organizational improvement efforts
- Build strong relationships across finance, operations, and executive leadership teams
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
- CPA required
- 5–10+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong experience with U.S. GAAP, consolidations, eliminations, and financial reporting
- Prior leadership experience within accounting organizations preferred
- Experience with in manufacturing, industrial, distribution, or multi-site operating environments strongly preferred
- Experience supporting organizations with multiple business units or legal entities preferred
- Advanced Excel skills required
- Large ERP system experience strongly preferred
- Strong communication skills with ability to interact effectively with executive leadership and operational stakeholders
- Assistant Controllers ready for broader leadership responsibilities
- Current Controllers within mid-sized operating companies
- Manufacturing and distribution accounting leaders
- Public accounting Managers or Senior Managers with significant manufacturing, industrial, or distribution client exposure
- Professionals with experience operating in decentralized business environments
- Broad exposure across corporate accounting, operational finance, consolidations, and leadership
