Major Responsibilities
  • Maintains competencies in multiple skill sets.
  • May perform as a Charge role with the ability to supervise others efficiently and effectively run department workflow during assigned shift.
  • Function as preceptor for new hires as well as radiology students. Able to train others independently in multiple settings of the department (diagnostic x‑ray and fluoroscopy).
  • Operation of advanced digital and computed radiographic equipment including portables, C‑arms, O‑arms, and fluoroscopy units in multiple settings.
  • Assists radiologists with fluoroscopic procedures including advanced exams such as GI procedures and mini‑special exams. Prepares radiographic/fluoroscopic rooms for procedures, maintains equipment and supplies for fluoroscopy case load, and schedules mini‑special exams (e.g., myelograms, cystograms).
  • Ability to troubleshoot diagnostic/fluoroscopic CR and DR equipment; identify and escalates issues and submit service requests.
  • Operates portable radiographic equipment and fluoroscopic C‑arms in the OR and intensive care units (MICU, SICU, PICU).
  • Operates the O‑arm independently.
  • Can demonstrate competence in two of the following advanced training procedures: OR19 (Hybrid Room), Stealth Navigation, Dexa‑training and certification required, EOS‑training and proficiency required, and pediatric specialized exams such as intussusception and VCUGs.
    * Exception:
    Dedicated overnight and pediatric team members must maintain competency in one of the mentioned procedures.
  • Participates in process or quality improvement projects, including: outpatient engagement initiatives, throughput and ED turnaround time, high reliability unit and safety focused initiatives, and other projects aimed at improving workflow, staff education, or department processes.
  • Operates x‑ray equipment to produce radiographs of designated portions of the body as specified by a physician.
  • Maneuvers portable radiographic equipment in patient care areas and in surgery as required.
  • Operates all components including all locking devices on radiographic, fluoroscopic equipment and C‑arms.
  • Performs radiographic procedures on Level I trauma patients to expedite immediate care of critically ill patients.
  • Determination of appropriate exposure factors and positions patient utilizing immobilization devices when appropriate to insure optimum film quality.
  • Verifies patient and procedure prior to starting exam.
  • Prepares patients for exam, obtains and records history, explains procedure, positions patients and ensures their comfort.
  • Adheres to isolation/sterile techniques and radiation safety procedures.
  • Adherence to department standards of radiographic quality.
  • Reviews radiographs to ensure optimum quality.
  • Reports environmental/equipment problems to appropriate resource personnel.
  • Performs required computer function for RIS/HIS systems.
  • Labels all radiographs appropriately following department’s established criteria and standards.
  • Consistently maintains an attitude of professionalism, cooperation and positive interaction with co‑workers, physicians, patients and families.
  • Participates in assessment of own learning needs and actively seeks opportunity for professional growth.
  • Attends in‑services to ensure knowledge of current departmental and technical procedures.
