Position: Emergency Service Technician-Adult Emergency Department-11a-11p

Full Time; 11a-11p

Adult ED

Major Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians and registered nurses in providing technical care of patients by performing phlebotomy, transporting patients to other departments, placing patients on cardiac and vital sign monitors, performing wound care, obtaining lab specimens, and, if allowed by state regulations, starting IVs.
  • Document information, procedures, and promptly communicate observations, concerns, and needs to the registered nurse.
  • Process daily patient charges and related procedures through the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Collaborate with physicians to support communications required to facilitate patient care, coordinating phone, verbal, paging, electronic, fax, and EMS system communications.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment by following department safety policies and standard precautions.
  • Monitor equipment, troubleshoot minor problems, and arrange repairs for major malfunctions.
  • Perform patient positioning and transporting duties requiring lifting, pushing, and pulling, using proper technique.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care for patients of the age served, including understanding developmental principles and assessing age-specific needs per department policies.
Licensure, Registration, and Certification Required
  • Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry in which the TM practices.
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic license issued through national registry or by the state in which the TM practices.
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic Intravenous license issued through national registry or by the state in which the TM practices.
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Intermediate license issued through national registry or by the state in which the TM practices.
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Paramedic license issued through national registry or by the state in which the TM practices.
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA); must be obtained within 6 months unless department leader determines it is not required.
Education Required
  • High School Graduate.
Experience Required
  • Typically requires 1 year experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Basic computer skills and ability to work with Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, patients, and families.
  • Maintain skill and recertification as required by regulation and organization.
  • Effectively manage time and priorities.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Team members maintain annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications (e.g., DNV, CARF or others).
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist.
  • Lift up to 20 lbs over the head.
  • Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
  • Push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
  • Perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present.
  • Use foot pedals on carts or machines.
  • Be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, and blood and body fluids hazards continuously.
  • Wear gloves, goggles, and gowns as needed.
  • Have functional sight and hearing.
  • Operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
