As a Licensed Practical Nurse in Hemodialysis, your specialized skill set and ability to collaborate with the Registered Nurse is vital to exceptional patient care.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Conduct and document a thorough assessment of each patient’s medical status upon admission and throughout the patient’s course of treatment.
- Assist in the implementation of the patient’s treatment plan under the direction of the RN.
- Comply with the evaluation, treatment, and documentation guidelines of the department.
- Act in compliance with hospital, regulatory, and professional standards and policies.
- Maintain clinical currency by pursuing continuing education opportunities.
- Administer IVP medications specific to dialysis patient population.
- Initiate and discontinue dialysis treatments using multiple access sites including AV fistulas, AV grafts, and Central Venous Catheters (CVC).
- Clean and redress CVC skin sites.
- Draw blood from CVC.
- Respond to CVC line separations.
- Graduate from an accredited School of Practical Nursing or hold an ASN/BSN in Nursing.
- Current New York State Licensed Practical Nurse license.
- Complete the NYS Department of Health and NYS DOE approved training curriculum for LPN’s working in Outpatient Hemodialysis Units (as part of unit-based orientation).
- Complete the NYS DOH and NYS DOE approved annual competency for LPN’s accessing central lines in a hemodialysis unit (as part of unit-based orientation).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
One year experience preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSMedium work:
Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; requires frequent walking, standing, or squatting. For disease-specific care programs refer to the program-specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements.
