Schedule:

Advocate Children’s Hospital 7p‑7a, three 12‑hour shifts a week, every 3rd weekend, rotating holiday track. Pay range: $20.80 – $31.20 per hour.

• Assist RN with daily patient care including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders, ambulation, therapeutic assistive devices, proper positioning, range of motion, and special transferring as needed.
• Measure and document vitals (BP, TPR), I/O, daily weights, and other data accurately in the EMR.
• Perform purposeful rounding under RN direction and promptly communicate observations, concerns, and patient/family needs.
• Participate in admission, transfer, and discharge processes under RN supervision.
• Ensure the patient call light is in reach and respond promptly.
• Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens; perform point‑of‑care testing with correct labeling.
• Maintain competency and complete errands such as pick‑up and delivery of trays, charts, specimens, and reports.
• Manage inventory and clean equipment and work areas.
• Assist with patient positioning, transport, lifting, pushing, and pulling using proper technique and assistive devices.
• Support nutritional needs: review diet, set up trays, and position patients appropriately.
• Maintain skin integrity: repositioning, skin care, and provision of supplies like TED hose and compression devices.
• Under RN direction, may remove IVs, provide post‑mortem care, and perform bladder scans as required.
• Practice infection prevention: hand hygiene, aseptic procedures, disposal of contaminated materials, and proper attire for isolation care.
• Assess patient status relative to age‑specific needs and provide care per department policies.

Education / Experience

• High School graduate, GED, or HSED.
• Registered Nurse Aide in good standing with the state registry and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; BLS required within 45 days of hire.
• No additional professional experience required.

Skills & Abilities

• Basic computer skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to set priorities.
• Capacity to work in a fast‑paced clinical environment.

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders.
• Lift up to 50lbs from floor to waist; up to 20lbs over head; carry up to 40lbs across a reasonable distance.
• Push or pull with 30lbs of force; perform a sliding transfer of 150lbs with a second person present.
• Use foot pedals on carts or machines.
• Functional vision and hearing; must wear protective clothing when exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation hazards or body fluids.
