Position: Building Cleaner (Parma)

Constellation Schools is seeking a highly-qualified Building Cleaner for the Parma, Ohio location. The position is responsible for the overall cleanliness of the building, monitoring the facility, and maintaining custodial supplies.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure cleanliness of restrooms by emptying trash, mopping and disinfecting floors, cleaning and disinfecting sinks, mirrors, toilets, urinals and pipes, replenishing soap, tissue, and paper towel supplies, checking that fixtures are in proper working order, cleaning doors, partitions, walls, ceilings, baseboards, radiators or vents, light fixtures, and performing spot cleans.
  • Ensure cleanliness of classrooms by vacuuming carpeted areas, sweeping and mopping floors, emptying trash, cleaning sinks and faucets, windows and glass doors, dusting ledges, blinds, shades, and ceiling fans.
  • Maintain hallways, entries, common areas and utility areas by sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming entryway carpets, disinfecting drinking fountains, dusting ledges and display cases, cleaning windows, door glass, fixtures, mopping floors, and disinfecting lockers.
  • Clean office area by sweeping or vacuuming floors, emptying trash, and dusting as needed.
  • Monitor the building and report issues to the school principal or assistant principal, such as minor repairs, floor maintenance needs, carpet cleaning needs, broken windows, doors with locking issues, and painting needs.
  • Assist with cleaning of student illness-related fluids, ensuring proper clean-up and disinfection policies are followed, using appropriate protective equipment.
  • Model appropriate behavior and encourage students and staff to contribute to the cleanliness of the building.
  • Keep custodial supply room organized, ensuring supplies are on hand, requesting supplies as needed, and receiving supplies at the building.
  • Remove minor debris from the grounds as needed to maintain the exterior appearance of the building.
  • Store cleaning products safely and use them according to proper methods, referring to Safety Data Sheets as needed.
  • Complete assigned training, including but not limited to Safe Schools Training.
  • Handle other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Remain calm under stressful situations.
  • Follow routine instructions and duty schedules and checklists.
  • Have a minimum of 6 months of cleaning or custodial experience preferred.
  • Understand the use and application of cleaning products and chemicals.
  • Proficient in relevant computer applications; respond to emails and clock in/out via an online timekeeping system.
  • Accuracy in keyboard skills and proven ability to enter data with attention to detail.
  • Multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Possess excellent communication skills.
  • Problem‑solving skills to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Interpersonal skills to maintain confidentiality and remain open to others’ ideas.
  • Oral communication: speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
  • Written communication: read and interpret written information accurately.
  • Planning and organizing: prioritize and plan work activities, use time efficiently, and develop realistic action plans.
  • Quality control: demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness and monitor own work to ensure quality.

Compensation

The starting hourly rate for this position is $16.00/hour. Starting pay is within a range that may vary by geography, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications.
