JOB SUMMARY
Performs preventive maintenance on various types of HVAC equipment within Anne Arundel County Public Schools' facilities. Based on the needs of Operations, the work hours for this position can be either first shift or second shift. Must be flexible to work all shifts as needed. The position is considered essential personnel for emergency situations, including inclement weather conditions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
* Performs preventive maintenance and diagnoses equipment for repair or replacement. Examples include but are not limited to air handling units, roof top units, exhaust fans, cooling towers, periodic changing of filters, and changing belts.
* Verifies that HVAC equipment and mechanical systems are operational according to design.
* Interprets instructions, drawings, and owner's manual specifications.
* Requisition s tools, parts, equipment and/or supplies.
* Maintains clear and complete records of completed work. May be required to complete records and/or reports electronically.
* Advises Lead Preventative Maintenance Technician of difficulties on assignment and mechanical failures.
* Performs any/all duties and responsibilities normally assigned to Roving Chief Custodians and/or Facilities and Complex Engineers.
* Ensures work areas are clean and equipment is in normal operation mode.
* Participates in snow removal.
* Responds to emergencies as directed.
* Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
* High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required.
* Technical or Vocational School Beyond High School preferred.
Experience
* Five (5) years mechanical equipment service or operator experience in a commercial, industrial, or educational environment required;
* Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities deemed sufficient to prepare the applicant to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
* Demonstrated mechanical/electrical aptitude.
* Ability to work from verbal or written instructions including simple floor plans and mechanical drawings.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
* Ability to employ business technology tools (e.g. E-mail, AACPS Intranet, electronic benefits enrollment tool, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
* Ability to work overtime, mid-shift, night work, and extensive hours during summer and other peak periods.
* Must provide own hand tools.
* Satisfactory score on any test required.
Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
* Upon hire, Introduction to School Facilities Boiler Plant Safety & Procedures Certificate issued by AACPS or equivalent outside course required; or
* Consideration will be given to candidates who can achieve a passing grade on Introduction to School Facilities Boiler Plant Safety & Procedures Certificate issued by AACPS or equivalent outside course required; or
* In lieu of completing the course above and/or passing the course test, 4th Grade Stationary Engineer License issued by Maryland Board of Stationary Engineers required.
* Successful completion of Leadership Training or Certificate Course issued by AACPS or equivalent outside course required; or
* First available after appointment Leadership Training or Certificate Course issued by AACPS or equivalent outside course required.
* Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required.
* Proof of a good driving record required.

* Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.
