Mechanic Apprentice

Position Summary

Responsible for performing preventative maintenance, special inspections and general repairs on tractor and trailer units in accordance with DOT, federal and state regulations and Company standards.

• Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers.
• Perform annual/systematic 90-day inspection to ensure equipment meets federal FHWA standards.
• Conduct HM inspections.
• Adhere to all established safety (OSHA) and environmental policies and standards, including proper handling or disposal of hazardous wastes.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Experience in the use of inspection and test equipment used for cargo tank inspections.

• Must have own tools.

Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently.

Use arms to reach, stretch, grasp, move or assemble objects; use legs to stand for long periods, maneuver through shop environment, and perform locomotive functions including crawling, kneeling, crouching, sitting, and carrying or relocating objects weighing up to 75 lbs. Perform broad and fine locomotive motions, maintain until fatigue, adjust bodily motions to accommodate changes, visually focus on objects in varied lighting, use auditory senses to isolate sounds, speak clearly.
