Licking Heights School District Districtwide – Pataskala, Ohio.

Responsible to:
Supervisor of Facilities and Custodial Services.
Job Goal:
To maintain the grounds/facilities in a condition of cleanliness and operating excellence so that students and staff will be furnished with an attractive and comfortable educational environment.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- One to two years of related commercial grounds or maintenance experience is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing and painting.
- Valid Class B CDL Ohio driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Commercial pesticide/herbicide applicator’s license in Categories 5, 4C or E, 6A, C, 8 and 10 or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment; otherwise employment will be terminated.
- Ability to operate snow removal equipment such as plow trucks, tractors, and blowers safely.
- This job may require mandatory overtime.
- Ability to load equipment on trailers and tow to various school sites safely.
- Understanding of all phases of work in a commercial environment with multiple sites and buildings.
- Ability to organize and complete work projects.
- Effective written and verbal communication with departmental personnel and administration.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to operate spraying systems for athletic fields and read schematic drawings.
- Knowledge and ability to operate, repair, and maintain commercial lawn care and landscaping equipment.
- Safety competence with hand tools and power tools.
- Capability to lift, carry, push, and pull supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds in accordance with OSHA guidelines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Other qualifications may be provided by the Superintendent or Board of Education as appropriate.
- Maintain necessary records for custodial and grounds equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance on all grounds equipment and playground equipment throughout the district.
- Review and recommend repairs to all driveways, walkways, and parking lots; perform such repairs when possible.
- Responsible for all aspects of maintaining district grounds:
- Remove trash and debris from district grounds and empty all exterior trash receptacles regularly.
- Perform landscaping duties of all flower beds—including weeding, picking up trash, mulching, caring for trees, shrubs and lawns throughout the district.
- Remove graffiti from the exterior of all district buildings.
- Perform lawn care maintenance on all grass areas and athletic fields according to established programs (fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, seeding, mowing, trimming).
- Assist with ongoing evaluations of standardized supplies and equipment; test new materials for inclusion or exclusion in the program.
- Perform minor painting and repairs on all outbuildings of the district, including press boxes, stadiums, concessions, storage, dugouts, and barns.
- Operate all tractors, mowers, lifts, trimmers, chainsaws, power tools and hand tools safely; work from elevated heights with various tools.
- Report misuse of facilities and recommend corrective action.
- Keep immediate areas around assigned building exterior doors clear of snow, ice, and debris to meet the fire code.
- Wash interior and exterior windows and remove graffiti as needed.
- Perform regular custodial duties in assigned building areas.
- Assist visiting members of the public using the facilities.
- Check daily schedule to provide necessary assistance for curricular and extracurricular events.
- Thoroughly clean all restroom surfaces.
- Maintain custodial closets neatly and orderly.
- Perform general cleanup of incidents as they arise.
- Prepare work orders using the district’s web‑based system.
- Occasionally work from elevated surfaces while cleaning overhead.
- Keep all necessary items—windows, air locks, chalk/eraser boards, lockers, furniture, display cases—clean at all times.
- Check daily to ensure all doors and windows are locked/unlocked as needed.
- Report major repair needs or deficiencies to the supervisor.
