Overview
Are you ready to hit the streets and make a tangible impact on your community? We are seeking a Street Maintenance Technician to join our dedicated team. As a Street Maintenance Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and functionality of the city’s roadways, sidewalks, and infrastructure. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your expertise while contributing to the overall improvement of our urban landscape by maintaining and repairing the City properties and right‑of‑ways.
Responsibilities- Receive written work orders or verbal instructions from the crew supervisor.
- Cut and trim trees, grass and weeds on right‑of‑ways.
- Remove litter from city streets and medians.
- Repair streets and sidewalks with asphalt, cold patching materials, and concrete.
- Remove and replace damaged traffic signs.
- Operate lawn equipment.
- Respond to animal control calls and handle pets and wildlife.
- Replace worn or damaged parts such as hoses, wiring, and belts in machines and equipment.
- Assist with city holiday decoration set‑up and take‑down.
- Assist with demolitions and carpentry as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Language Ability
Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
Reasoning Ability
Apply common sense to carry out detailed but uncomplicated written or oral instructions; handle problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
No computer skills required.
Certificates & Licenses
Valid Alabama Driver’s License required.
The work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration, and occasional electrical shock. Noise level is usually moderate.
Physical DemandsFrequent lifting or moving of up to 80 pounds. Specific vision requirements: close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Duties include standing, walking, using hands to handle, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear regularly; occasional sitting and tasting or smelling.
