Street Maintenance Technicain

As a Street Maintenance Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and functionality of our city's roadways, sidewalks, and infrastructure. • Receives written work orders or verbal instructions from Crew Supervisor.
• Cuts and trims trees, grass and weeds on right‑of‑ways.
• Removes litter from City streets and medians.
• Repairs streets and sidewalks with asphalt, cold patching materials, and concrete.
• Removes and replaces damaged traffic signs.
• Operates lawn equipment.
• Responds to animal control calls and is responsible for catching pets and wildlife.
• Replaces worn or damaged parts such as hoses, wiring, and belts, in machines and equipment.
• Assists with City holiday decoration set up and take down.
• Assists with demolitions and carpentry as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

No computer skills needed.

Valid Alabama Driver’s License required.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions, frequently exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration, and occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
