Title:
Custodian - School locations to be assigned
Rank II – 8 hours per day and 12 months / 240 day position
Rank I – 8 hours per day and 10 months / 200 day position
Qualifications:
- Meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. (Must pass background screening).
- Must have the physical strength, agility, dexterity, acuity and mobility to perform job responsibilities.
- Must have the ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships
- High school graduate or equivalent (GED) and academic competency in basic skills(
* may be waived by the superintendent only) - Ensure consistent punctuality by arriving to work on time each day, maintaining a reliable and professional presence.
- Such alternatives to the qualifications listed above or below as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable
Essential Functions:
1. Good general health to complete job task.
2. Lift 60-80 lbs. repetitively.
3. Able to perform repetitive motion cleaning duties including constant bending, stooping, stretching, and heavy lifting.
4. Able to use cleaning instruments and products.
5. Capable of running electrical equipment.
6. Able to climb ladders carrying cleaning equipment, tools, or equipment.
7. Work unobtrusively in student areas.
8. Develop an expertise in floor care and maintenance.
9. Work indoors or outdoors and may have to endure harsh conditions, such as unfavorable weather, working around chemicals, and with noisy cleaning equipment.
10. Able to use manual and powered hand tools, push and riding mowers, tractors, floor cleaning machinery, and other necessary equipment to carry out assigned duties.
11. The employee must have proficient knowledge of standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, products and equipment.
12. The employee must have the ability to read and understand labels and instructions, particularly on the use and application of cleaning chemicals and products.
13. The employee must demonstrate the following skills:
- decision making skills;
- problem solving skills;
- effective verbal and listening communications skills;
- time management skills;
- and the ability to work with little or no supervision.
14. The employee must be willing to work on a daily basis with dangerous and toxic cleaning products that can be harmful to one's health if not properly utilized. In some cases, these products give off unpleasant odors. The employee also regularly has to clean up blood, saliva and other bodily fluids that are unpleasant.
15. The employee must have the knowledge and skills to perform preventive maintenance as needed.
16. Children are also a part of this job. There can be no bad language, tobacco, alcohol, etc. around them.
17. Inventory equipment and supplies as needed.
18. Drive school vehicles and be legally qualified for insurance coverage.
19. Attend any training as required or requested by Pelham City Schools.
20. Monitor, inventory, and replace as needed lights bulbs, air filters, etc.
21. Set up and cleanup of special events (athletic events, performances, etc.)
22. Daily monitoring and cleanup of outside grounds and exterior trash cans.
23. Grass cutting and care for shrubs if needed.
24. Perform all aspects of floor care including moving of furniture, cleaning, stripping, waxing, and any other needed requirements.
25. Attend meetings, training, and in-service presentations relative to job functions, including:
- presentations regarding behavior management;
- crisis management strategies,
- emergency procedures;
- training modules;
- and school system and building level professional development.
26. Be regular and punctual in attendance.
27. Adhere to all Board policies, school system rules, school system administrative procedures, and federal, state, and local laws.
28. Report work absences and take leave in accordance with Board policies, school system rules, school system administrative procedures, and applicable law.
29. Maintain proper and professional relationships with students, school system employees, and school visitors.
30. Perform assigned job duties in a courteous and professional manner.
31. Properly care for equipment and material resources of the school system.
32. Maintain confidentiality regarding school and/or workplace matters in accordance with federal and state law.
33. Perform other job-related duties assigned by Superintendent and/or supervisor(s).
34. Carry out all responsibilities at all assigned locations.
