DESCRIPTIONOF WORK
This position operates and maintains steam boilers and related equipment to support essential heating and hot water needs at Torrance State Hospital. As a Utility Plant Operator 2, you will perform the following duties:
- Boiler Operation: Run boilers and auxiliary equipment to maintain steam levels for hospital heating and hot water
- Shift Oversight: Assist plant staff and monitor operations during assigned shifts
- Equipment Monitoring: Check plant systems, take readings, and document gauge information in shift logs
- Water Treatment: Test and chemically treat boiler water to protect equipment and maintain performance
- Maintenance Support: Complete preventive tasks and assist with equipment repairs when needed
- Safety Compliance: Follow required safety rules and ensure safe operation of all power house systems

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work hours are 2nd shift (2:30 PM to 10:30 PM) Wednesday - Sunday. You will have Monday and Tuesday off.
- You will be subject to emergency call‑ins.
- Overtime as required
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as a Utility Plant Operator 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title)
- One year of semi‑skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment
- An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes six months of semi‑skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment
Other Requirements:
- You must meet the PA residency requirement.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
