Location: Houston
Job Summary
Coordinates, inspects, and monitors building maintenance, operations, and service activities including grounds maintenance, housekeeping, paint shop operations, carpenter shop operations, and security within a district or at an Austin area campus. Leads technical employees and works independently on assignments; any unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. Contact with contractors and private entities is a regular requirement.
Essential Duties- Leads technical, administrative, or clerical support employees.
- Assists in periodic inspections of buildings and grounds.
- Coordinates, inspects, and/or monitors building operations and service activities including housekeeping, security, inside painting, carpentry, and/or groundskeeping at one or more sites.
- Enters work order information and tracks projects in an Automated Software System, ordering materials and equipment as needed.
- Monitors building maintenance, equipment condition, and service contracts.
- Performs evaluation and may assist in developing and implementing a preventive maintenance program.
- Provides estimates of time and materials needed for each assignment.
Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent in general studies.
Experience: 6 years in building inspection, maintenance, utility systems, electrical, carpentry, or painting. Full-time or prorated part-time experience may be used for equivalency. Related college education or technical training may substitute experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
Licenses and
Certifications:
Valid driver’s license; position requires driving a state vehicle.
Considerable Knowledge of:
- Preventive maintenance methods and procedures
- Building support service operations and management
- Methods and materials used in groundskeeping
Some Knowledge of:
- Monitoring the status and progress of projects
- Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
- Subject to environmental conditions; limited protection from weather, not temperature changes.
- Outside environmental conditions; no effective weather protection.
- Sedentary work: lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files or small tools.
- Balancing, walking, standing, and crouching on various surfaces without falling.
- Pre‑employment physical examination required.
- Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions; random drug testing will occur.
- The Department of Transportation's Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulation – 49 CFR Part 40, 40.151(e) – does not authorize medical marijuana as a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test result.
