Maintenance Technician - Grounds Focus
Reports To:
Director of Buildings and Grounds
Job Summary:
A maintenance technician with a focus on grounds. Ensures the exterior safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of school district properties. Key responsibilities include landscaping (mowing, planting, pruning, and weed control), debris removal, snow/ice management, maintaining exterior structures like fences, walkways, and curbs, as well as athletic fields and practice facilities. Maintains a clean, safe and attractive environment for students, staff and public.
Essential Functions:
- Operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs on equipment such as riding mowers, weed whackers, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, and tractors.
- Maintain exterior fixtures, including painting, repairing fences, benches, planters, and cleaning exterior lighting.
- Performs basic repairs on District equipment and facilities; if needed performs basic electrical and plumbing repairs and maintenance; installs component parts on classroom and office equipment and facility components to provide a safe and functional environment.
- Performs preventive maintenance on all District equipment and facilities.
- Performs basic rough and finish carpentry work including repairs of structures such as partitions, walls, doors and hardware, fences, etc.
- Assists custodial workers in the maintenance of their respective facilities as required.
- Performs all assigned work in a safe manner. This includes using all safety equipment when required and maintains all tools in a safe operating condition.
- Complies with District policy, local, state, and federal laws and procedures for the use, storage, and disposal of waste, cleaners, chemicals and all other products and materials used in performing duties.
- Complete daily work orders as assigned.
- Assists in snow removal during winter months.
- Move district mail from building to building and to post office/UPS as needed.
- Circulate copies from the copy center to appropriate buildings as needed.
- Trim trees and shrubs and clean up all limbs and debris as needed.
- Ensure all buildings and facilities are safe and secure.
- Responds to emergency situations, vandalism, power failures, storm damage, and water pipe failures.
- Maintains equipment, work space and job sites in a clean and orderly way.
- Unloads materials, supplies and equipment when received.
- Directs student, bus, and/or traffic as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Performs in accordance with school policy, administrative regulations, state and federal laws.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Valid Driver's License
- Must be able to operate automatic and standard transmission vehicles and all District-owned vehicles and equipment.
- Strong sense of pride in work and responsibility.
- Ability to read English and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to use arithmetic computations to measure, count and calculate quantities.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to work courteously and effectively with district personnel and the public.
- Ability to apply sound judgment, solve problems, make effective decisions, and act quickly in emergencies.
- Use District resources effectively and efficiently.
