Equipment Operator II

About the Position

This position is for an Equipment Operator II in the Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department.

• Operate a grapple truck for the tree crew to remove debris.
• Transport and operate tractors and skid steers to remove large tree and landscape debris.
• Operate bushhogs, zero‑turn and 11' rotary mowers to mow areas in parks, beaches, and other County‑owned and maintained properties.
• Use handheld tools to accomplish daily tasks and debris removal at various park locations (string trimmer, blower, rake, shovel, etc.).
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment in accordance with maintenance standards; troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed.
• Complete assigned work orders productively and professionally using various Microsoft and other software applications.

Full‑time, 40 hours per week.

Typical schedule:

6:00a.m.–2:30p.m.

Employees may be required to work during disasters or declared emergencies.

• High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience operating and maintaining the equipment listed above.
• Valid Florida ClassB Commercial Driver License (CDL) or greater, and a valid Florida driver’s license by date of hire.
• Successful completion of a pre‑employment substance screening; failure will disqualify the applicant for five years.

Initial pay rate $18.21 per hour (Step1) with potential increase to $20.10 per hour.
