This is a Maintenance Mechanic position at Escambia County Health Department (Escambia CHD). Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Facility Manager I - SES. The incumbent will be responsible for providing maintenance repairs, equipment repairs, vehicle inspections, occasional delivery of interoffice mail to all outlying locations in support of clinical operations for all Escambia CHD locations. The incumbent must arrange and prioritize their daily schedule to include daily and weekly routine duties as well as work orders submitted by staff.

They must have a valid driver’s license and will serve as a purchasing card user for Facilities/Information Technologies, following state laws and maintaining the purchasing card transaction log and requisitions. Travel may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Building Maintenance/Repair: Survey facilities for repairs or improvements, provide material lists, and execute tasks such as wall repairs, surface preparation, painting, pressure washing sidewalks and buildings, and necessary support in leased facilities. Safety of employees and clients is a priority.
  • Plumbing Maintenance/Repair: Survey facilities for plumbing issues, recommend repairs, provide materials, and execute maintenance on faucets, toilets, drains, and other fixtures. Safety is a priority.
  • HVAC Maintenance/Repair: Survey facilities for HVAC issues, recommend repairs, and execute maintenance on chillers, boilers, VAVs, air handlers, pumps, and split units; replace filters and vacuum return ducts. Safety is a priority.
  • Electrical Maintenance/Repair: Survey facilities for electrical issues, recommend repairs, and execute maintenance on light fixtures, ballasts, emergency lighting, outlets, and covers. Safety is a priority.
  • Renovations/Relocations: Relocate modular office equipment and furniture, notify Property Custodian, arrange conference rooms, and coordinate office moves. Safety is a priority.
  • Equipment Maintenance/Repair: Survey equipment for maintenance needs, recommend repairs, and execute tasks on pressure washers, drills, compressors, battery chargers, and ice machines. Safety is a priority.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Inspect and maintain seven CHD vehicles, check fluids and tire pressure, report discrepancies, handle preventive maintenance deliveries, and maintain a vehicle logbook.
  • Grounds: Walk facility grounds daily, maintain trash removal, repair irrigation heads, water grounds, clean debris, and keep grounds orderly.
  • Courier/Motor Vehicle Operator: Deliver mail to rural clinics, transport biomedical waste, move bulk supplies and equipment, verify secure documents, retrieve medical records, and prioritize safety.
  • Contractor Escort: Escort contractors for preventive maintenance or repairs when required.
  • Safety: Inspect fire extinguishers, report deficiencies, and serve as a primary responder for fire alarms and drills.
  • Property Inventory/Management: Assist in maintaining lists of all property and tools purchased for facility staff.
  • Other duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and appropriate tools for constructing objects, structures, and buildings.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of equipment and mechanical devices and their applications.
  • Ability to install equipment, machinery, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
  • Ability to repair machines or systems using required tools.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and determine required interventions.
  • Ability to diagnose operating errors and decide remedial actions.
  • Ability to select appropriate tools and equipment for tasks.
  • Ability to conduct tests to verify equipment and procedures are operating as expected.
  • Ability to inspect and evaluate product quality.
  • Ability to control operations of equipment or systems.
  • Ability to watch gauges, dials, or other indicators for proper machine function.
  • Ability to understand written documents related to work.
Qualifications

Minimum: 0–1 year of work experience; valid driver's license.

Preferred:
High School Diploma; 1–3 years of maintenance work experience in a government facility.
