Lead Custodian, Elementary School (Night)

Oversees and performs a variety of custodial duties to clean, maintain and secure assigned school facilities. Essential functions may include performing and/or leading the work unit, supervising entry level personnel, coordinating and scheduling tasks, training new employees, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and kitchen areas, performing cleaning, dusting, mopping, window washing, floor waxing, vacuuming, trash removal, sanitizing and related functions, picking up garbage and trash bags, emptying trash in appropriate dumpster, picking up crossing signs, flags, and event signage, assisting with setting up and breaking down tables and seating for extra curricular activities, meetings and events, cleaning cafeteria, auditorium, restrooms, kitchen or gymnasium after school events and meetings, performing final security checks and work inspections, checking doors and windows for security locks, securing school facilities for the night, performing minor maintenance repairs, assisting teachers and school staff with loading, unloading and moving of equipment and supplies, maintaining inventory of stocked supplies for routine cleaning, ordering and restocking supplies, materials, tools and equipment as needed, and being available for emergency calls.

Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes and PUSD policies and procedures, principles of custodial care of public-school facilities methods, cleaning chemical preparation and usage, leadership and training, and basic principles of management and supervision. Skills in reading, interpreting, understanding and applying relevant Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes and PUSD policies and procedures, training employees in the safe mixing and usage of cleaning and sanitizing chemicals, instructing employees in the use and care of commercial cleaning equipment and supplies, cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas, assigning and reviewing work performance, and establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the school district.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, and two years of relevant, progressively responsible custodial experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Other requirements include possession or obtaining an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card, passing a background clearance check, possessing and maintaining a valid Arizona driver license, and being able to perform minor maintenance repairs in addition to primary custodial duties, while standing, stooping, bending, crawling and working overhead.

Potential exposure to dangerous machinery, potential physical harm, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, fumes, infectious diseases, air, water and bodily fluid borne pathogens, lifting and/or carrying heavy, bulky supplies, equipment, tools, parts and materials weighing up to 60 pounds, operating commercial cleaning and maintenance equipment, working outside normal working hours and being available for emergency calls, and traveling to perform work functions.
